Before we got instructions we looked at Mrs Bryant's onager. We tried to copy the design.
Making a base
First you make the base. Get some paddle pop sticks and one of them has a mark down the middle of it. Put another stick next to it and cut that stick in half. After that have a full stick and glue it on to the half stick and keep piling them on until you have got three layers.
Putting the string on
Next we had to get a piece of string that was one meter and 30cm long. We folded the string in half twice. Then we put our finger through the loops on the right side and held the other side of the string with our other hand, then twisted the string until it was tight. After that we wrapped the twisted string around the middle of our onagers then we tied a knot at the side.
Helping with making the onager
You probably will have some difficulties with making your onager but when you finish you will need to help with other people's onager.
Making the firing arm!
You need one popsicle stick and a quarter of a popsicle stick.
First take the quarter stick and put it in a hole of the string. It is easier to put it in the middle of the string. Next start twisting the stick but make sure the quarter stick can reach the bottom string. After you twisted it tightly you get one popsicle stick and then glue it on the front of the quarter stick. Straight after you glue it on put a bulldog clip to hold it together while the glue is drying out so you need to let it dry overnight.
Get a milk bottle top or glue two cupcake papers together and glue it onto the firing arm and wait for it to dry because if you don't it will fall off and it won't work.
What a great piece of instructional writing with accompanying pictures. Great to hear that helping others was part of the process.
