Making Placemats

“We’re making placemats!” “Ohhhh!” Kimberly had told me about making placemats last year when I wasn’t here, and she said it took foreverrr. (Kimberly is my friend.) My hand shot up. “What are we making them with?” Mrs Bryant, our teacher, reached behind the whiteboard and pulled containers and packets of… “Crepe paper??” the class exclaimed. “Yes, and it will only take 2 sessions to make them!” “Grace, what colours would you like?” “Pink, purple, green and light blue,” I replied taking my crepe paper colours. David was handing out the pieces of card the size of our desk for the bases of our placemats, so I grabbed one. I grabbed my crepe paper and carefully started placing them in the directions I wanted them to be in, pink, green, blue, purple, start again… “This, class, is magic brew!” said Mrs Bryant. “How is that magic?” I thought, as Mrs Bryant stirred the brew with the end of a paintbrush. I grabbed a cup of brew and a paintbrush. When I’d painted the brew over the crepe paper I read a book. Well, I did a bot of drawing but don’t tell anyone. The magic brew had worked wonders! Mrs Bryant had peeled the crepe paper off Blake’s placemat and the colour had drained onto the paper like dye. After everyone else had peeled the crepe paper off their placemat, we found out that Mrs Bryant had photocopied some cute Hoihos that we placed and stuck to our placemats. Next, we typed up 2013 on the ipads, printed them and stuck them to our placemats. Then, well we were pretty much ready for laminating them.
