Dome Strength

We brainstormed strong 3D shapes on the whiteboard . We said that an arch was a strong shape, then we talked about where your weight would go if we stood on an arch bridge. We had a lot of ideas about where our weight would go but we found out that it went down the curved sides towards the ground.Then we demonstrated with our arms how strong a dome is with Jonty and Mrs Bryant pushing the top of our hands down. It was fun experimenting with domes.

On Wednesday 4th Hoiho class did a science experiment. What we did is we got four empty three quarter eggshells. We put two eggshells close together at one end and two at the other end in a rectangle shape. Then we started to put blocks on.

Some people thought that the eggshells wouldn’t hold three blocks. We stacked the third block on the empty 3/4 eggshells. Finn, Jacob, David

We put on the 4th block and there was a loud CRACK! Everyone yelled and I said "That was close". And one eggshell was cracked now. By Patrick 

Then we placed the tenth block on top of the ninth block. And the eggs didn’t break. Caleb

On the 14th block we heard a crack in an eggshell and it collapsed like the twin towers. By Margeaux

On Thursday we were writing like scientists about doing a forces experiment. First we did the title then the materials. After that we did the hypothesis. Then we did the procedures which took a while. Last of all we did the conclusion.

Bat On

The Hobbits Reading group created this poem in response to a poem they read called Kick Off.

 Bat On
The team wants to be the ball flying through the sky,
The ball wants to be the bat whacking sixes,
The bat wants to be the pads protecting the batsman’s body,
The pad wants to be the bowler bowling the ball at the wickets,
The bowler wants to be the umpire putting out the finger,
The umpire wants to be the fielder catching the ball,
The fielders want to be the wickets getting smacked down,
The wickets want to be the crowd cheering out at the end of the game,
The crowd wants to be the team, holding the World Cup ...

Brightening Our Room

Placemat Days “Have you heard the story of the Pied Piper,” said Mrs Bryant quietly. “No, I haven’t actually,” said I. “Well it’s about time you learnt it,” said Mrs Bryant in a shocked voice. But before I tell you that story, I have to tell you this story. Everyone on the mat bunched together, ready to listen to Mrs Bryant. “Today we will be making placemats from crepe paper,” said Mrs Bryant. Yeeesss!!! hissed the class. Firstly we had to choose a colour of crepe paper, I chose blue and red. Secondly we placed crepe paper on our A2 piece of paper to get the picture of what we wanted. “We’re going to use the magic brew,” said Mrs Bryant. “What is the magic brew?” said part of the class. “I think it’s vinegar,” said Margeaux. “Correct,” said Mrs Bryant. “Right what we’re going to do is put the magic brew over the crepe paper, so the brew will go through on to your paper!” said Mrs Bryant. Lawson, my friend, came over and looked at mine. “It’s good,” said Lawson. “Thank you,” said I. Once we finished the bell rang. “We will carry on with this tomorrow.” The next day we went onto the ipad to print 2013 for our placemat. We had to make it really big so it could be able to be seen from a distance. When nearly everyone was done we put hoiho pictures onto our placemat. I chose a small penguin, medium and large. I thought it was fun and exciting. Jacob
