Tasman District Book Quiz
Reading Quiz
I looked at myself in the mirror. "Really?!?!" I thought to myself "I look like .....a.....guy!" I placed my (3D) glasses upon my nose, then grabbed my dressing bag and rushed out of the bathroom door. Josh was waiting for me outside the classroom. "You look like a geek!!!" said Josh, through splutters of laughter. "Watch it!" I threatened. I strolled into class. Then I stopped. One by one, everyone turned around and stared. There was an awkward silence.
"Well, I never!" said Mrs Bryant.

I opened the door and ran outside. We were at the quiz at last! I had been so excited about the quiz, but suddenly I felt as if I were eating butterflies. They fluttered around in my stomach. "M-mum?" "Yes?" "I don't know if I can do this."
*****
After being convinced that I had to do the quiz otherwise I'd let everyone down, I was led inside the library.
I went to find Simonne and Taneeka, the other two people representing our school.
*****
"Right, last question. What fish live in the mudflats?"
"Flounder!" whispered Josh, cupping his hand around his mouth.
*****
"The winners for this section are Mapua Books 'R Us!"
I clapped for them. Simonne looked at me.
"Would you wanna be a bad sport?" I asked.
*****
I stared at the Jacqueline Wilson book. My eyes were burning these words in it: YOU’RE MINE!! One of the girls at the table in front of us was pointing at the book I wanted and pointing at herself.
The battle for the book begins!!!
*****
Success! I got the book I wanted! As I came back with the book in my hand the girl poked her tongue out at me!
Golly! She isn't even happy for me!
Next I knew we had come 3rd! Out of 9 schools!
Wakefield came 1st but we came 3rd!
I could not believe our luck!

Richmond Quiz
I was getting pretty nervous now. Me, Grace, Simonne and Taneeka had been chosen to go to the Richmond Library quiz to represent St. Paul's School. We had to study up on lots of Children's Book Awards books, because most of the questions that we studied up on would be based on the books.
Anyway, in the library when all the schools that were taking part in the quiz were there, we entered the room where the quiz would be held. We sat down on a table with a sign saying "St. Paul's Bosses”. After a few minutes a man with a jester hat on told us that he would be reading out the questions and that there were 4 categories: Uncle Trev and his whistling bull, At the beach, The millennium tree, and general questions. He also told us we could choose a bonus round in one of the categories, we chose Uncle Trev and his whistling bull. There were 10 questions in each category, and you had to write the answers on a sheet of paper.
Finally we started. The first category was at the beach. On the first question, I realized that this would be harder than I thought! We managed to get 6 and a half points in that round. Then there were spot prizes while the adults marked our points. The winner of that round was Mapua Books R Us.
Next round...... The millennium tree! We got 9 points in that round. Then there was a morning tea break. We had a muffin and a drink of juice.
Next.... Uncle Trev! I thought we went VERY well in that round...... And we did! We got 20 points because we chose that category as our bonus round. And we won the round and I won a spot prize! That round was heaven. There was only one more round. This was the general questions round.
We got 7 points. It was the final moment- the judges were announcing the winners. "Come on will ya, come on....." I was thinking to myself..... " In third place we have St. Paul's bosses!" I was VERY happy! We had come third out of 9 schools! "And in second place...... Mapua Books R Us!
And first..... Wakefield Wizards! I was so happy-but I was ready for next year!
